Hajime @ Ampang, KL

My Rating for Hajime: (5/6)

24 24 24 24 24

How many times have I eaten at Hajime ... and how many times have I been completely impressed?? ..countless times!!

Hajime is situated in Jalan Damai off Jalan Ampang. Housed in a cosy little bungalow with ample parking space, it has a quiet sort of atmosphere.

The exterior and interior of this refurbished bungalow were extremely pleasing due to the use of various types of woods and stones to create different textures on the surfaces of the building. I brushed past a rope curtain at the main entrance as I entered a very short passageway which led to the main dining area. The main area had two separate sections. The non-smoking section consisted of sunken seats with muted lighting, while the smoking section was more brighty lit with conventional tables and chairs. The interior is abit warm though because of the lighting (spotlights and low-hanging lamps).

The Hajime Bento, RM86.

Akami (Tuna) maki and Shake(Salmon) maki. This roll is very delicious.

Looking at the gorgeous pieces of freshly cut sashimi, I am glad I acknowledged my inner desires. With every bite of the raw fish, I felt like I was born again.

You won’t find ramen and udons here nor can you find chicken teppanyaki and katsudons. If you like fresh sushi and sashimi, this is the right place to come to. This restaurant also serves the famous fugu (poisonous puffer fish which requires a specialised trained chef to prepare. It only comes in season from July to August.

Japanese - sushi and sashimi, oysters and seafood on ice.
Indian/Malay - lots of curries, tandoori and roti and keropok

Desserts - strawberry tarts, tiramisu, mango pudding, ice-cream with assortment of condiments and fruits, lollipops and etc.

Yummy Oysters

Sushi and sashimi…salmon, tuna, octopus, oysters, mussels and etc

Time for drool-worthy desserts!

They have an entire section dedicated to chocolate!

Chocolate fondue for chocolate lovers

I found all their seafood and sashimis are not really fresh. The rest of the food also taste average to me, except for their cod fish and deserts. The dessert spread is wonderful especially the chocolate fountain. They had skewers of marshmallows, honeydew, strawberries and biscuits ready for dipping in the fountain.

The place is almost fully packed with people, reservations for weekends have to be done at least 3 weeks in advance.

Japanese food is one of my favorite cuisines. Sashimi, sushi, tempura, hand rolls, teriyaki, teppanyaki, I love them all. There are many good Japanese restaurants and one of my absolute favorite would be Rakuzen.
